2025 is right around the corner

Are you ready for 2025?

I love it when October rolls around.

Not only do we get a respite from the Texas summer heat here, but Q4 means planning for the next year begins in earnest.

My corporate clients are now preparing their strategic plans and budgets for 2025 and I’m doing the same with my business in thinking how I can best support them.

Here’s one area of marketing that I see as ripe for explosion: podcasts and live shows.

Now, you may be saying: “Hey Fanny, podcasts have been around for 21 years - what’s new about that?”

You’re exactly right about podcasts being part of our lives for a long time (in fact, I wrote about it recently), but the way podcasts can be leveraged is what’s changing.

People often think of podcasts as one and done. You go out there and create a podcast episode, put on Spotify, Apple and YouTube, and then move on to the next one.

But what I'm finding works really wonderfully - both for me and for my clients - are multi-purpose shows, where we take a podcast or live show and then turn it into weeks and months of content - blog posts, social media, infographics… and more.

Podcasts and live shows can become an amazing foundation for your content strategy - becoming a content hub for you and your organization.

I’ll talk more about this in the next newsletter, but for now, think about the power of podcasts for 2025!

Podcast Feature:

Donovan Farrow: Cybersecurity expert talks cyber crime, digital forensics & career advice

I've always been intrigued by courtroom strategies and tactics and this man has provided digital forensic analysis in more than 2,100 court cases!

Donovan is the CEO of Alias Cybersecurity, which provides cybersecurity services, specializing in preventing, detecting and responding to cyberattacks. He has been a courtroom expert witness to some horrifying crimes.

Here are some highlights from our chat:

  • Everyone will always see the victories, but they don't see all the struggles you went through to get there.
  • You can't unbeat passion.
  • Is [technology] meant to make our lives easier? It's meant to make ourselves a little more calm and organized. But do you really need to know if you have ketchup in your digital refrigerator?
  • Imagine the worst thing you would ever think to be on a device, a computer, a cell phone, it's pretty horrific so there are some people in the industry that go to therapy because of that. I maintain my optimism and humanity by training high school and college students in cybersecurity.

Content tip:

Building content calendars

In the spirit of the opening story about planning for 2025, here’s a helpful video about how to build content calendars.

I describe the strategies behind creating:

  • Monthly topics
  • Weekly sub-topics
  • Daily posts

Check it out - it will help make 2025 your most successful year of content ever!

A little inspiration from a food documentary:

Who else is a foodie? One of my favorite food documentaries is Netflix's Chef's Table. The restaurants and food they feature has me drooling. But what's equally beautiful is the cinematography and storytelling. They all follow a certain sequence:

1) Showcase a specialty

2) Overview of current state

3) Tell where they got started

4) Share challenges they faced

5) Provide lessons they learned

6) Highlight their triumphs

The next time you create long form video, consider all those elements of the hero's journey.

Why 7-11-4 might be the most important rule you’re overlooking . . . It’s hard to put a number on trust, but here’s the formula that might do it: 7-11-4. I’m currently reading "Oversubscribed: How to Get People Lining Up to Do Business with You" by Daniel Priestley and he has a great perspective on the 7-11-4 rule, originally created by Google. In a nutshell, the 7-11-4 theory explains the level of familiarity needed for someone to feel comfortable buying from you (whether you sell a product...

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a video worth? I believe in the power of video. When my family left China and moved to Canada, I didn’t know any English. But I began picking up the language from cartoons and conversations. Learning how to write English came after several years of English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes. This is natural. After all, humans are wired for spoken language first. Babies and kids learn to listen and speak before they read or write—a pattern that...

The most important brand in the world… you. Can you guess how many brand messages you see each day? Here’s a hint - it’s a LOT. Researchers estimate that each of us is exposed to 6,000 - 10,000 ads daily. Between social media, search and display ads, emails, and even good old-fashioned billboards and bus stop benches, brands are everywhere. The same holds true for you. While personal branding seems like something we’ve been saying forever, the term itself only goes back to 1997, when Tom...
